Dear Valentine: A Love Letter Writing Workshop 

If you have had trouble penning the perfect paragraphs to the one you love, find solace at this event dedicated to writing “Playful, Meaningful [and] Connective” words. Included in the experience are instructions on “creative letter-writing, a wax-sealed envelope and letter, meaningful connection exercises, a shared experience [and] snacks.” Tickets are available now for this event running from 1 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Story Parlor.

Furr-Ever Valentine Photo Event 

Are you looking for a pet friendly photoshoot? Celebrate your love for your furry friend with a portrait taken for a small donation at this event. From 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Ginger’s Revenge, take your pup for a walk down to the river to benefit the Asheville Humane Society.

Introduction to Natural Dyes 

Natural dyes may not be the preferred method of adding color to fabrics today, yet grounding yourself with organic dyes can add earthiness to your crafts and additional meaning. From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the North Carolina Arboretum, you can learn how to make and use your own dyes.

Making Mosaics 

The Asheville Art Museum is hosting a hands-on instructional afternoon from noon – 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 and 15. The two-day workshop will focus on “cutting, shaping, and arranging mosaics to achieve different visual effects,” according to the posting. Set as a fundamentals course, all levels of experience are welcome to attend.

Sixth Annual Cupid is Stupid Car Smashing 

Yes, you read that right. If you are looking for a place to get out your pent-up aggression, consider smashing a car with a baseball bat. From noon – 5 p.m. on Feb. 8 at the parking lot of Hi-Wire’s Biltmore Village taproom, you can tell Cupid and his lovey-dovey antics to take a hike. With “an arsenal of bludgeoning devices available,” you can pick a weapon to take out your pains from Hurricane Helene and life in general.

Shiloh Black History Celebration 

A traditionally African American neighborhood in Asheville, the people of Shiloh know the history of their ancestors well. The organizers of this event promise “Showcasing deep roots of the Shiloh Community by honoring those who lead the way, enjoy storytelling, and reflecting with one another.” This informational gathering will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center.
