HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — An Asheville man has been jailed after pleading guilty to charges related to a burglary in Henderson County, the district attorney’s office said.

According to the investigation and court trial records, Kevin Eugene Mapp Jr., 40, was involved in a traffic accident in Buncombe County on Nov. 24, 2024, after which he exchanged personal information with the victim, District Attorney R. Andrew Murray, who represents Henderson, Polk and Transylvania counties, said in a news release.

On the night of Dec. 14, 2024, Mapp broke into the victim’s Henderson County home while it was occupied. Physical evidence such as cell phone data, a video recording, and a pawn ticket lead law enforcement to Mapp, the news release said.

On Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, Mapp pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering and two counts of financial card theft, the district attorney’s office said.

Mapp, who is also a registered sex offender, was sentenced to a minimum term of 82 months and a maximum term of 111 months in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Van Buren handled the prosecution and sentencing of the crimes.

“When someone violates trust and the sanctity of a person’s home, they will be prosecuted accordingly,” Murray said in the release.
