An arrest has been made in connection with an assault that left a man unconscious in a parking lot at Aston Garden Apartments on March 27, Asheville police said Friday.

Kaseem Carltrelle Simmons, 29, was arrested about 4:20 p.m. Thursday, May 9, while leaving an apartment complex on Spruce Hill Court, police said in a news release. During the investigation, detectives found a trafficking amount of fentanyl, crack cocaine and MDMA (ecstasy).

Simmons was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, trafficking in opium or heroin by possession, possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule I substance, possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II substance and possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule VI substance.

Police seized 6.86g of fentanyl, 1.38g of crack cocaine, 14.52g of meth and 64 DU of MDMA, according to the news release.

The release said Simmons was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond (ineligible for release) by a magistrate because of the Pretrial Integrity Act.
