ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville area residents can look forward to a refreshing break in the weather, with cooler temperatures, lighter winds, and sunshine on tap Friday — the perfect setup for a day outside before showers return by the end of the weekend.

High pressure is expected to linger through Saturday, keeping the weather mostly dry, according to the National Weather Service. A warm front is forecast to move northward on Sunday, bringing an increased chance of widespread showers into early next week. The pattern is expected to remain active through midweek, with thunderstorm chances rising by Wednesday.

Winds may still be breezy at times Friday, but skies are expected to remain mostly sunny, and temperatures are forecast to be slightly cooler, making for a comfortable day.

A developing low-pressure system over the Rockies is expected to trigger a warm front stretching from the Great Plains to the Deep South by early Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. While some forecast models suggest the possibility of light precipitation reaching southwestern areas by Saturday morning, confidence remains low, and rain chances are currently set at less than 20 percent. Overnight lows will dip 5 to 10 degrees below seasonal averages under mostly clear skies and light winds.
