ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Movies in the Park is a yearly summer tradition for Asheville families and film-lovers alike.

For the second installment of the 2025 season, “Black Panther,” the 2018 superhero sensation, will roar onto the stage at Pack Square Park.

The film will begin around dusk at 8:25 p.m., Friday, June 13, on the stage at 80 Court Plaza. An hour prior, the Asheville Parks & Recreation Rec n Roll Play Zone opens with games, music and other activities for kids and teens. Attendees will receive free superhero masks while supplies last.

“Black Panther” is directed by Ryan Coogler, the visionary artist behind “Sinners,” which we dubbed the best movie of the year so far.

However, unlike his R-rated vampire extravaganza, “Black Panther” is safely within the guardrails of PG-13, appropriate for teens, adults and savvy kids.

The film stars the late, great Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, ruler of the African nation of Wakanda, as he protects his throne and his home from the usurping interests of his vicious cousin, Erik Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan.

The film was the 18th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was followed by a sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” in 2022.

Wakanda will next be seen in the animated anthology series “Eyes of Wakanda,” due on Disney+ in August 2025. The most recent Marvel film, “Thunderbolts*,” premiered earlier this summer, with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” to follow this July.
