ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The heat is on in the Asheville area. And along with the heat, there’s the humidity and chance of afternoon rain.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the western Carolinas on Tuesday afternoon and evening, with the potential for a few storms to become strong or severe, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters said the main threats from the storms are large hail and damaging winds, along with the risk of isolated flash flooding from heavy downpours.
Hot and humid conditions will persist through Thursday, with daily chances of showers and thunderstorms. A cold front is expected to move through the region early Friday, bringing drier air and a temporary break from rain heading into the weekend.
Although humidity levels are forecast to drop this weekend, temperatures are expected to rise again early next week.
