CANDLER, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A power outage that began early Wednesday morning is affecting hundreds of customers in the Candler and Enka communities of western Buncombe County.

Duke Energy reported that the outage, caused by damage to major power lines, was first reported around 5:20 a.m. As of 9:30 a.m., about 440 customers remained without power.

Crews have been assigned and are working to restore service in the affected area, which includes parts of Monte Vista , Asbury and Justice Ridge roads.

According to the Duke Energy Outage map, restoration is expected by about noon.

Duke Energy has not released further details about the cause of the damage.
