BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Authorities are investigating the death of a man found unresponsive Tuesday morning in Black Mountain.

According to the Black Mountain Police Department, officers responded to a call around 11:03 a.m. in the 500 block of N.C. 9. Upon arrival, officers discovered a recently deceased male.

Initial findings suggest the man died of natural causes. Police said there are no indications of foul play, and there is no perceived threat to the public.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assisted with processing the scene. The body will undergo an autopsy as part of standard protocol for unattended deaths, and the official cause of death will be determined by the state medical examiner’s office.

“Police cannot make assumptions and need to wait for reports from the medical examiner to determine a cause of death,” the Black Mountain Police Department said in a statement.

Police said the man’s identity was being withheld until next of kin could be notified.

Authorities thanked first responders and members of the public who assisted at the scene. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
