ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police have identified the pedestrian killed in a motor vehicle collision earlier this month as Claude Alie-Alexander McPherson Jr.
McPherson, 62, was struck and killed June 10 on Patton Avenue. Police released his name Wednesday following notification of his next of kin.
According to the Asheville Police Department, an investigation in consultation with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office determined no criminal charges will be filed against the driver involved.
McPherson, affectionately known around town as “Alex the Catman,” was a familiar face in downtown Asheville, known for his close bond with his late cat, Thomas.
Though authorities did not immediately confirm his identity, friends and community members took to social media in the days after the crash to mourn his death and share memories.
