WOODFIN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A storm cleanup crew’s industrial grinder caught fire late Thursday night in Woodfin, prompting a response from local firefighters.
According to the Woodfin Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 11 p.m. to a reported vehicle fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the blaze involved a Vermeer grinder, not a passenger vehicle. The equipment, operated by an out-of-state cleanup team, had ignited because of a buildup of mulch debris, fire officials said.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, limiting damage to the machine. The cleanup crew was able to resume operations shortly afterward.
The department expressed appreciation for the continued efforts of storm recovery crews working to restore the area.
