MILLS RIVER, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Bold Rock Mills River invites you to a celebration comprised of local vendors, a fish fry special, raffles, live music and more, all in support of breast cancer recovery.

Bold Rock Mills River will host their fourth annual Fishing Festival from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, July 26 at their Mills River Cidery, 72 School House Road.

“This will be our fifth year hosting the Fishing Festival and it will be our fourth year that we team up with Casting for Recovery,” explained Mike King, a representative of Bold Rock.

Casting for Recovery is a nonprofit organization that provides free healing outdoor retreats for women of all ages undergoing any stage of breast cancer treatment or recovery.

“It’s really neat, life-changing support connecting fly fishing with medical oncology and psychological support, fostering empowerment and healing connections with other women and nature,” explained King.

According to King, the Bold Rock program has aided in doubling the number of women who attend Casting for Recovery. King himself will join an upcoming retreat as a guide.

“It’s a really heartwarming thing. I’m actually going to the retreat with them this fall as a fly-fishing guide and to see it firsthand,” King shared. “They put some women in the river in a chair and guides help them fish. It’s so therapeutic for them.”

King felt that the connection Bold Rock Fishing Festival has established with Casting for Recovery has given the fishing festival a deeper meaning beyond the fish fry and good vibes.

“The event now has a purpose,” King said.

While there won’t be any actual fishing at the Bold Rock Fishing Fest, Bold Rock staff hopes to reel in donations and visibility to promote the cause of Casting for Recovery.
