ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —
Authorities are looking for a person they say who took a vehicle from a local dealership, used it in an attempted break-in at Omni Grove Park Inn and then returned it.
The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said the vehicle was taken from Ricky Rogers Auto Sales on an unspecified date and then used in an attempted breaking-and-entering in the Asheville Police Department’s jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, Asheville police are attempting to identify the person who attempted to break into a room at Omni Grove Park Inn at 6:22 a.m. May 22. Hotel security told officers a guest was awakened by a loud noise and opened the door to find a man trying to cut open the latch, an Asheville Police Department Facebook post said.

“Security footage showed a man entering the Vanderbilt parking garage at 3:46 a.m. in a silver Dodge Challenger bearing NC temporary tag 29849960. The man then took the elevator to the 7th floor and began to cut the latch on the guest room. After his failed attempt, the man got into the vehicle and left the garage by pushing through the exit gate lift arm. He exited his vehicle to re-affix the lift arm before leaving the property,” the Facebook post said.
The stolen vehicle was returned without incident, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
An Asheville Police Department spokesman said they believe the same person was involved in the car theft and break-in attempt.

Authorities are still looking for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office at 828-250-4483 or Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110.
