Think back to grade school. Remember the Scholastic Book Fair? If so, there’s a chance for a nostalgic afternoon this weekend.
Local brewery The Whale is partnering with The POP Project to host the Whaleastic Grown-Up Book Fair, a riff on the classic elementary school book sales, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at 507 Haywood Rd, West Asheville, NC 28806.
“It’s community-based,” said Justin Soucher from Malaprops Books, which will have a table at the event. “It’s about trying to get out there and get books in people’s hands.”
Other local booksellers slated to be at the fair include: Chapters Bookstop, Blue Moon Books, Firestorm Books and Lit Local Books.
Author meet-and-greets are planned.
From 1-2pm, Kristin Dwyer, author of “Some Mistakes Were Made,” is slated to sign books, followed by Anne-Fitten Glenn, author of “Western North Carolina Beer,” from 4-5pm.
“Everyone needs a good book,” according to the website of event sponsor The POP Project, a local non-profit dedicated to giving books to those without access to them.
Admission is free. Book donations to The POP Project are requested. The bar will be open during the fair and tabs can be rounded up to benefit the charity.
