ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Michael Adarius Cornett, 37, was arrested after firing a gun into an occupied vehicle last Saturday.

No one was injured during the incident, which took place around 6:21 a.m., Saturday, March 14 around the 700 block of Fairview Road. According to the victim, a man driving in the lane next to him fired several rounds into the victim’s car before fleeing the area.

Subsequent investigation by Asheville Police Department detectives identified Cornett as a suspect and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office deputies took him into custody at his Weaverville residence. A search of Cornett’s residence led to the seizure of six firearms.

Cornett was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond and charged with:

  • One felony count of Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Property
  • One count of Assault With a Deadly Weapon
  • One count of Injury to Personal Property
