ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A 16-year-old charged in a Fairview triple homicide is scheduled to make her first court appearance Thursday morning in Buncombe County after being extradited from Tennessee earlier this week.
Star Melody Grant is scheduled to appear before Judge Meredith Pressley during a first appearance hearing at the Buncombe County Judicial Complex. Grant is charged as an adult with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the deaths of three family members found shot to death inside a Fairview home.
Court records show the hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Courtroom 003B.
According to arrest warrants, investigators allege Grant and co-defendant Devan Oneal Loving conspired to kill the victims on or about May 1, several days before the bodies were discovered during a welfare check at the home on Ashworth Drive. The warrants do not list a motive.
Authorities identified the victims as Travis Eugene Grant, 41, Kimberly Michelle Grant, 42, and Sharon Harwood Grant, 66. Investigators said Travis and Kimberly Grant were Star Grant’s parents and Sharon Grant was her grandmother.
Grant was returned to Buncombe County on Tuesday after waiving extradition in Sevier County, Tennessee, where she and Loving were arrested following the killings.
Because she is charged as an adult, Grant is being held without bond, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said she is being housed at a juvenile detention facility in Alexander County.
Investigators said deputies responded to the home on May 7 for a welfare check and found the three victims dead from gunshot wounds. Authorities said Grant was initially considered missing before she and Loving were located at a hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Investigators have also charged Loving with three counts of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and abduction of a child. Authorities said Loving is expected to be extradited to Buncombe County later this week and will be held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility.
The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office has not publicly discussed a possible motive in the killings.
