What is coming to the Wortham Center?

“For more than three decades, Wortham has been a place where our community gathers to experience the transformative power of the arts,” said Rae Geoffrey, Wortham Center managing director. “This season invites audiences to revel in the unexpected, embrace beauty and discover extraordinary artists and performances. We hope audiences will stay curious, try something new and enjoy a few surprises along the way.”

The season will begin with “Mike Super: Magic & Illusion” on Sept. 19. Super, a winner of “Phenomenon” on NBC and a finalist on “America’s Got Talent,” will perform family-friendly magic featuring audience participation and comedy.

The season will conclude with NoGravity Theatre, a dance performance where dancers “appear to levitate, soar, and defy gravity itself” in an interpretation of “The Divine Comedy,” the Wortham Center said.

Along the way, performances include music by a Nordic folk trio, five weekends of comedy from nationally-touring comedians, a musical holiday tradition and multimedia theater.

The Kirk & Lucy Borland Student Series will also take place throughout the season, giving Western North Carolina students arts education outside of the classroom.

The series will include:

  • Oct. 9: “TheaterWorksUSA: Pete the Cat”
