HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsnow) — The community is coming together on Thursday to honor a fallen hero.
The bridge located on Hendersonville’s Four Seasons Boulevard at the I-26 overpass is being dedicated to Henderson County Deputy Ryan Hendrix, who was killed in the line of duty in September 2020. A dedication ceremony is planned for July 18, starting at 9 a.m., outside the front entrance of the sheriff’s office, located at 100 North Grove Street in Hendersonville.
“Deputy Hendrix’s bravery and sacrifice touched us all deeply, and this ceremony will be a fitting tribute to his legacy,” the online announcement from the sheriff’s office said. “Join us as we honor his memory and the impact he had on our lives. ”
On the morning of Sept. 10, 2020, Hendrix was shot while responding to a reported vehicle break-in in the Mountain Home community. Tragically, he died from his injuries later that day. He’s remembered by the Henderson County community and beyond for his bravery. A Facebook post from the sheriff’s office in 2020 said Hendrix continued to save lives even after his death.
“Even in passing Ryan continues to exemplify a servant’s heart,” the post said. “You see, Ryan was also an organ donor. He will continue to help strangers for a lifetime, even after making the ultimate sacrifice.”
The 34-year-old Asheville native was survived by his parents, his daughter, his son, and by his fiancé. The two were supposed to be married that October.
The sheriff’s office said the community is invited to the bridge dedication ceremony to honor the fallen hero.
“Please mark your calendars and spread the word. The ceremony will take place at the front entrance of the Sheriff’s Office at 9am. Together, let’s show our support for Deputy Ryan Hendrix and his family as we remember a true hero,” the sheriff’s office said.
