ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post is in dire need of financial support. Car enthusiasts plan to rally this weekend in solidarity.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 at the Advance Auto Parts located at 801 Fairview Road in Asheville, motorists and spectators will gather to raise funds for the struggling VFW Post 9157 in Black Mountain.
“A few months ago, they had someone run into their building and drive off,” Wheels for Meals organizer James Rarick explained. Bills continue to pour in despite the Post being closed for repairs. “This [event] is to help them stay afloat.”
Wheels for Meals is a local nonprofit founded by Rarick to help MANNA FoodBank during the COVID-19 pandemic. Years on, Rarick still leads the organization, now hosting around five events annually that he says are “always for a good cause.”
Wheels for Meals hosts Car and Bike Shows for MANNA, local families who need financial support and the VFW Post.
“We’re just trying to help the community,” Rarick explained, “because that’s all we have.”
Rarick expects around 40 to 70 cars to pull in this Saturday and an additional seven or eight bikes.
All proceeds from the event will be given to VFW Post 9157. Curtis Hi-Tech Auto Service Center has pledged to match up to $1,000.
The event is free to spectators. Entrance fees for cars and bikes in the show will be $10 at the event. Custom trophies will be awarded to winning vehicles.
The Blue Ridge Cowboy Church Band are slated to perform live music. Food truck Trucking Delicious plans to offer food.
Raffles and a silent auction will be taking place with prizes including a shotgun and a firearm training course.
