ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — An Asheville man has been sentenced to at least 35 years after being found guilty of murder and other charges.
Tyrell Devon Warren, 32, was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and related charges following a two-week jury trial, the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
According to the release, Asheville police responding to a call for shots fired in a parking lot under the Jeff Bowen Bridge in the early morning hours of June 13, 2021, found Brian Keith Wilson and a second victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest. Wilson died at the scene. The second victim was taken to Mission Hospital and survived.
Police discovered that the shooting followed a fight that occurred two hours earlier in the vicinity of 19 N. Ann St., wherein Wilson, the second victim and Warren had been visiting with a female, the news release said.
“Officers were able to establish that Warren left the fight near 19 N. Ann St., retrieved a .22 caliber revolver, then found the victims in the parking lot under Jeff Bowen Bridge, where they were getting into a stolen Subaru with the female,” the news release said. “An argument ensued and Warren shot Wilson and and the second victim. Following the shooting, Warren fled on foot, and committed a series of car thefts and armed robberies in downtown and West Asheville.”
Warren was arrested in Monroe, North Carolina, on June 20, 2021.
Warren was sentenced to serve 336-416 months in the killing, followed by a consecutive 89-119 month sentence for armed robbery.
