Asheville –Rev. Raymond Lewis Bartlett, II, 76, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Mission Hospital.
A native of Texarkana, Texas, he was a son of the late Raymond Lewis Bartlett, Sr. and Tommie Colene Farris Bartlett and the husband of the late Teresa Marie Shelby Bartlett who passed away in 1994 following 25 years of marriage. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Judy Campbell.
Following high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Army where he served during the Vietnam War as Military Police (MP). He continued in his career following his military service in South Carolina with the SC Department of Corrections at the Givens Youth Corrections Center and then onto the Texas Department of Corrections. Later he was called into ministry and pastored Johnson Creek Baptist Church, a small church in Arlington, Texas, for many years.
Surviving are his sons: Raymond Bartlett, III and wife Vickie; and Bryan Bartlett and wife Stephanie; grandchildren: Randall “Randy” David Bartlett and wife Claire, Laura McColley and husband Brandon, Heather Marie Bartlett, and Jonathan Bartlett.
The September 4, 2024, Wednesday evening service at 6;30 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, of which he was a member for the past 10 years, will be dedicated to Rev. Bartlett’s memory. All are welcome to come.
A funeral service will be held in Canton, TX with burial to follow at the Haven of Memories cemetery at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 3 Glenn Bridge Rd, Arden, NC 28704.
