An Asheville man was sentenced Monday to almost three years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of felony trafficking in cocaine, one count of misdemeanor carrying a concealed gun and one count of possession of an open container.
Donterian Steffon Shivers, 34, who was sentenced to 35-51 months, was also ordered to pay a $50,000 fine.
Shivers was arrested Feb. 14, 2023, after Asheville police saw him drinking beer in a city park and while in a vehicle, the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release. Officers also reported seeing a pistol tucked into Shivers’ pants. They stopped him as drove away.
According to the district attorney’s office, officers found beer, a loaded 10mm Glock pistol, a large quantity of cocaine, $850 in cash and two cell phones in a search of his vehicle and a backpack he had with him.
