HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — All Hendersonville water customers remain under a system pressure advisory. Although portions of the water system are experiencing outages and periods of low pressure in the distribution system, city officials said conservation measures have helped restore pressure and refill reservoirs.

City officials said crews have made progress in accessing flood damage at the Water Treatment Plant and the plant’s ability to treat water has almost returned to pre-storm levels. But there are still multiple line breaks and leaks throughout the distribution system, a statement for the city said.

Crews are making progress in assessing damaged lines and infrastructure, although some areas of the county pose challenges in terms of access. Staff are continuing to assess the situation and are evaluating areas where water is being lost and working to isolate them, the statement said.

“We are aware that portions of the system, including communities in the Fletcher area, Edneyville and areas east of I-26, and Saluda, are without water. As the repairs are made and reservoirs fill, the utility will begin bringing sections of the system back into water and repair line breaks,” the statement said.

“It will take time to bring the system back to normal levels and distribution ability. Staff are prioritizing areas with the highest number of impacted customers and critical public health and safety customers. We are pleased that due to the around-the-clock work of our staff, we were able to restore water service to our local hospitals early in the recovery efforts.”

Once water service is restored, customers who have electric or alternative power are advised to boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation). Those without power are advised to use bottled water for the purposes mentioned above.

“Our partners at Henderson County have tirelessly worked to establish resource hubs at various community locations to distribute bottled water. If you are in need of bottled water, we recommend you obtain it at these hubs as well as the many organizations throughout the community who are stepping up to provide assistance,” the update from the city said.

Water and supply distribution points have been set up across Henderson County.

The six drive-through Resource Hub locations will distribute water and additional supplies to individuals in need throughout the county.

The drive-through Resource Hubs will be open at 9 a.m., distributing supplies throughout the day as they are available.

Locations of the hubs are:

  • Etowah Elementary School, 20 Etowah School Road, Etowah, NC 28729
  • Rugby Middle School, 3345 Haywood Road, Hendersonville, NC 28791
  • East Henderson High School, 150 Eagle Pride Drive, East Flat Rock, NC
  • North Henderson High School, 35 Fruitland Road, Hendersonville, NC
  • Mills River Town Hall, 124 Town Center Drive, Mills River, NC
  • Fletcher Town Hall, 300 Old Cane Creek Road, Fletcher, NC

Each family unit will be provided supplies for one day’s meal and water as it is available. Individuals are asked to enter the drive-through Resource Hubs and remain in their cars, unless instructed otherwise by volunteers, to ensure an efficient process.

In order for the Resource Hubs to function smoothly, efficiently and safely, the public is asked to be patient while waiting for their supplies.

At this time, the Resource Hub operations are planned for Monday only. Details about other resource distributions, as well as donation acceptance instructions from the general public, will be communicated by the county as information is available.
