FEMA
There are three ways you can apply for disaster assistance benefits following #Helene:

NC Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA)
Following a federal disaster declaration because of Hurricane Helene, Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) benefits are now available in 25 counties as well as the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. People in these counties have 60 days from October 1 to file an application for Disaster Unemployment Assistance at des.nc.gov. The deadline to apply is December 2. The counties are as follows, and more counties may be added to the list of those eligible for DUA at a later date: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, Yancey and Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
One Buncombe Call Center
Buncombe County has activated this call center for residents to report storm damage, access resources, and find storm-related information. Call 828-250-6100.
Water and Food Distribution
ASHEVILLE
- City of Asheville Food and Water Distribution Sites: Food and water distribution locations in Asheville now have non potable water which can be used for flushing toilets. This is in addition to drinking and cooking water. The public will need to bring their own containers for non-potable water.

- World Central Kitchen is in Asheville and will serve meals at noon each day at Bears Smokehouse on Coxe Ave. More info here.
- WNC Farmer’s Market – Manna Foodbank will be distributing water, food, baby diapers from 11a-5PM. Donations Accepted 8-12 AM Daily. Asheville Humane Society will be on site to accept donations of pet food and supplies.
- Hearts with Hands – Distributing food boxes and water from 10 a.m.-6 p.m daily through Saturday. Distribution is at the organization’s warehouse located at 850 Warren Wilson Road in Swannanoa.
- Static Age Records -Open from Noon-7pm. Distributing bottled water, food and hygiene products. Has power and wifi available and a hot water handwashing station.
- Lowe’s Home Improvement on Smokey Park Highway – Denny’s Mobile Relief Diner will be open from 8am-1:30pm through Tuesday, October 8th and will serve FREE freshly cooked breakfast with coffee and water. Address is 95 Smokey Park Hwy, Asheville, NC
- Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack – Crisis Response International Mobile Kitchen is distributing free meals at Rocky’s South Asheville location on Sweeten Creek Road from 12-3 daily
- Daddy Mac’s Downhome Dive South Slope – giving out free meal boxes every day from 12-2 while supplies last
- Papa Johns – Providing free pizzas at 800 Fairview Rd location in Asheville 12 – 6 pm daily, while supplies last. Beginning Saturday, Oct. 12, a Papa Johns mobile kitchen at 825 Merrimon Ave. in Asheville will be providing free pizzas from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, while supplies last.
BUNCOMBE COUNTY
The following locations will distribute a one-day supply of bottled water for each individual in a household, with distribution sites operating as drive-through locations, but walk-ups will be accommodated. Open Noon-4pm

- Supplies of food and drinking water are available daily for distribution from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at
Ingles in Black Mountain, 550 NC-9. Ice will be available. Food and water are continuously coming into
our community. - Residents can visit the Black Mountain Pool area located at 401 Laurel Circle Dr. from Monday-Saturday
9am-6pm, and Sunday 10am-6pm for potable water, supplies, a landline phone, and solar showers. - Supplies are available at the Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, 117 Montreat Rd., Monday-Friday
- Supplies and meals are available at The Railyard, 141 S. Richardson Blvd., 11am-5pm daily.
Weaverville
- Wal-Mart has established a drive-thru relief center, offering hot meals, water, and ice. Center will be open from 12pm Friday October 4 until 4pm Sunday October 6
- Water and pantry items will be distributed from the Community Center on Wednesday, October 2 from 3-4pm.
- Water and pantry items will be available for pickup on Thursday, October 3 at the Weaverville Community Center, 60 Lakeshore Drive. 10am – 2pm.
- Donations of water and pantry items will be collected at the Community Center Thursday, October 3 between 3pm and 4pm

Woodfin
- West Woodfin Distribution Hub – 80 Olivette Road, Woodfin. Food, water from 3-5pm daily.

HAYWOOD COUNTY
If you are in need of supplies, you can visit one of the following County distribution centers:

Supplies can be picked up Monday through Friday, from 9am to 6pm.
Town of Canton: Hurricane Helene Supply Distribution Center opens Thursday, October 3 at the International Paper Sports Complex located at 305 Silkwood Drive in Canton, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Please bring your own reusable bags or boxes to carry items.
Maggie Valley: A water tanker is stationed at the Maggie Valley Fire Department, 2901 Soco Road, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for those who need water. Please bring your own containers. Limit is 1 gallon per person per day.
HENDERSON COUNTY

Emergency Shelter: Edneyville Elementary, 2875 Pace Road, Hendersonville, for Henderson County residents who were displaced by Hurricane Helene. This shelter has bathroom facilities and serves hot meals. This location also offers sheltering for pets. If you were displaced from your home due to the hurricane and need to seek shelter, please go to the Edneyville Elementary shelter.
