BUNCOMBE COUNTY, NC – October 2, 2024. (828NewsNow) In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Mountain Mule Packers Ranch has partnered with Cajun Navy 16 to deliver crucial aid to rural areas of North Carolina that remain isolated by storm damage. The use of pack mules and experienced volunteers is helping reach remote communities that are inaccessible to traditional vehicles due to blocked roads, fallen trees, and widespread flooding.

Mountain Mule Packers, a local organization specializing in pack mule transport, has been instrumental in navigating the rugged terrain of Western North Carolina. Working alongside Cajun Navy 16, a volunteer disaster response team, the two groups are transporting food, water, and medical supplies to residents who have been cut off since Hurricane Helene struck the region.

According to the Mountain Mule Packers Ranch Facebook page, yesterday the mules successfully delivered food and supplies to the residents of Black Mountain. Today, they are heading toward Swannanoa to continue providing essential items and assess residents’ needs in more isolated areas.

Mules are ideal for recovery efforts in rural areas because of their unique ability to navigate difficult terrain that vehicles cannot access. Their sure-footedness and strength allow them to carry heavy loads of supplies, including food, water, and medical equipment, across narrow mountain trails and rugged landscapes. Their endurance and adaptability make them critical assets in delivering aid to communities in remote areas of Western North Carolina.

Cajun Navy 16, known for its extensive experience in disaster relief, has deployed volunteers to help deliver supplies and assess the needs of isolated residents. The collaboration has allowed for coordinated efforts, with teams providing daily check-ins and ongoing support to those affected by the storm’s aftermath.

As recovery efforts continue, local authorities are urging residents in rural areas to remain patient, assuring them that aid is on the way. Mountain Mule Packers and Cajun Navy 16 are working tirelessly to ensure supplies reach all areas impacted by Hurricane Helene.
