(828NewsNow) Buncombe County Schools (BCS) announced the closure of all schools for the week of Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4, as the community continues to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Helene. The decision comes after careful consultation with Buncombe County emergency officials to assess the damage caused by the storm.

In a statement released to families and staff, school officials expressed their gratitude for the tireless efforts of first responders and emergency personnel, who have worked around the clock to protect local families and assist those affected by the hurricane.

“Based on the tremendous impacts to our families and neighborhoods, the decision has been made to close all Buncombe County Schools for the entire week,” the statement read. These days will be designated as annual leave for school staff.
