ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —
Construction at Asheville Regional Airport is causing some changes, and travelers should plan accordingly.
Because of work on a new passenger terminal, the rental car check-in counters are temporarily moving to mobile buildings outside baggage claim. Just follow the signs through the covered construction walkway to the counters.
The move will allow construction to begin in the south area of baggage claim, airport officials said in a news release. The construction area should not significantly impact the baggage claim operational area.
This is a phased project, and the new north concourse will be the first area to open in June 2025. The completed project, which will be an entirely new airport with 150 percent more space, is expected to be completed by 2027, airport spokesperson Tina Kinsey said. The approximately $400 million project includes a new air traffic control tower, as well.

A new customer service area will be operating during the busiest times of the day while a ticket lobby is being built.
“Half of the existing ticket lobby has been demolished so we can move forward with construction, so we are utilizing an outside area as ticket queuing space,” Kinsey explained.
AVL team members will help direct passengers to their correct lines and keep the area flowing efficiently, the news release said. This outside area will be covered and lighted.
