ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Drivers on Interstate 26 near Asheville could run into delays late Thursday morning as crews temporarily slow traffic for blasting and rock removal.
A traffic slow roll is scheduled to begin about 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in both directions near the Broadway interchange at Exit 25, according to NCDOT.
The rolling slowdown will give crews time to safely complete rock removal work along the interstate. Drivers traveling through the area in either direction should be prepared for brief delays and possible backups.
The rock removal is part of the I-26 Connector project and is intended to stabilize the slope near the interstate.
Similar rock removal operations could occur in the coming months. When blasting is necessary, it will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Drivers should allow extra time, watch for construction crews and traffic control personnel and consider another route if possible.
Thursday’s work is weather-dependent and could be postponed or adjusted if conditions are unsuitable.
