ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A juvenile wanted in connection with an April 2026 shooting on Atkinson Street, located by the Hillcrest Apartments complex in Asheville, has turned themselves in.
The juvenile was served with open warrants by the Asheville Police Department, who are working with the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice to investigate the matter.
The juvenile is the second individual to be arrested in connection with the shooting, which occurred around 3:29 p.m., Sunday, April 26, 2026, on Atkinson Street and left one victim with a gunshot wound and several vehicles damaged by gunfire.
APD officers, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office IGRANT Unit, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the United States Marshals Service collaborated to locate and arrest the then 19-year-old Lamon Tyrik Smith Jr., who was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, possessing a weapon of mass destruction, attempted first degree murder, felony conspiracy and injury to personal property.
Smith was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond for release.
APD thanked the BCSO for their assistance in the arrest of the juvenile.
“The APD appreciates the valued partnership and collaboration with the BCSO and Sheriff Quentin Miller, which led to this apprehension,” APD said.
