Feeling Irish? St. Patrick’s Day is more than just green beer. Here are some popular foods & drinks people enjoy on this fun holiday:

1. Corned Beef and Cabbage: This is perhaps the most famous St. Patrick’s Day meal, especially in the U.S. It typically consists of corned beef, cabbage, and sometimes potatoes or carrots. While it’s often associated with Irish-American culture, corned beef wasn’t traditionally used in Ireland. However, it became popular among Irish immigrants.

2. Irish Soda Bread: A dense, slightly sweet bread made with baking soda instead of yeast. It often contains buttermilk and can include raisins or currants.

3. Shepherd’s Pie: A comforting dish made with minced lamb (or beef, in the case of cottage pie) topped with mashed potatoes. It’s savory, filling, and perfect for a festive meal.

4. Irish Stew: A traditional Irish stew is made with lamb or beef, potatoes, carrots, onions, and parsley. It’s a rustic and satisfying dish, ideal for colder weather.

5. Guinness Beef Stew: – A rich and flavorful stew made with chunks of beef, vegetables, and Guinness beer for added depth of flavor.

6. Potato Pancakes (Boxty) – Fried potato pancakes that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, sometimes served with sour cream or applesauce.

7. Fish and Chips – Though more of an English dish, this fried fish with crispy fries is a favorite in pubs across Ireland and can be found in many St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

 8. Guinness-Braised Meat: Dishes like braised beef or lamb cooked with Guinness beer are popular in Irish cuisine, bringing deep, rich flavors.

9. Colcannon: A comforting dish made from mashed potatoes mixed with cabbage or kale. It’s often served with butter and is a traditional Irish side dish.

10. Pints of Guinness: While not technically a meal, it’s common to see people enjoy a pint (or two) of Guinness beer alongside their St. Patrick’s Day feast.

You can top it off with Irish coffee – The combination of a smooth Irish whiskey with rich black coffee that’s sweetened and topped with cream is an absolute delight. “Sláinte!”
