CANDLER, N.C. (828newsNOW) — One person was killed Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Pisgah Highway near Mountain Home Drive, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. at 1351 Pisgah Highway, or N.C. 151.
The vehicle had one occupant, who was deceased when Upper Hominy Fire Department personnel arrived, according to Sgt. H.M. Onderdonk of the Highway Patrol.
The investigation remains ongoing. Highway Patrol said it could not release additional details until the victim’s next of kin has been notified.
A 828newsNOW reporter at the scene observed numerous emergency medical personnel, firefighters, utility crews and several Highway Patrol troopers responding to the crash.
The roadway was closed for about 15 minutes but has since reopened, Highway Patrol said.
Residents in the area also reported power outages following the crash. Social media posts described seeing numerous emergency vehicles responding to the area.
828newsNOW had reached out to the Highway Patrol earlier Tuesday seeking information about the crash, including the number of vehicles involved, injuries and what happened. The agency later confirmed the crash was a single-vehicle collision with one fatality.
