ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police have charged a third person in connection with an April shooting on Atkinson Street that left one person wounded.

The Asheville Police Department said Monday that further investigation led detectives to charge Trevon Demarkus Stone in the April 26 shooting.

Stone faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon and injury to personal property.

Stone is currently in federal custody on unrelated charges, according to APD.

The shooting happened about 3:29 p.m. April 26 at a residence on Atkinson Street. Officers responding to a report of a gunshot wound victim learned the victim had been taken to Mission Hospital by a third party before police arrived.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound that was not considered life-threatening. Officers and forensic technicians found multiple shell casings and several vehicles damaged by gunfire at the scene, police said.

Two other people were previously charged in connection with the shooting.

Lamon Tyrik Smith Jr. was arrested Sept. 8 and charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, felony conspiracy and injury to personal property.

Police also charged a juvenile in the case. APD announced Sept. 18 that the juvenile had turned themselves in and had been served with outstanding warrants. Police have not publicly identified the juvenile or detailed the charges.

APD has not said what led to the shooting or described the alleged roles of the three people charged.
