(828newsNOW) — Local law enforcement agencies teamed up to arrest and charge a 23-year-old man in connection with a shooting Saturday, April 20, at an apartment complex on Atkinson Street in Asheville.
On Saturday evening, Asheville Police responded to a report of a person at Mission Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg. An investigation determined that the shooting had taken place at an apartment complex on Atkinson Street.
According to an APD news release, detectives identified and charged the suspect, Juve Markie Lequan McAlpin, 23, who already was wanted on a federal probation violation.
Detectives reportedly worked with state and local partners to determine that McAlpin was in Henderson County.
According to the release, on Wednesday, April 24, when Henderson County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to make contact with McAlpin, he fled on foot and soon after was taken into custody. He reportedly was found in possession of a .38-caliber revolver.
McAlpin was booked into the Henderson County Jail, where he was on a no-bond hold, ineligible for release.
In addition to facing the alleged federal probation violation, McAlpin has been charged with: assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury; shooting into occupied property; two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon (in Buncombe and Henderson counties); and resisting arrest.
The condition of the victim was unavailable.
