ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) – A NASCAR team is starting its engines for a single-day free drive-through to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Former basketball all-star Michael Jordan is sending his racing team, 23XL, zooming into Asheville for the food giveaway from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the WNC Farmers Market at 570 Brevard Road.

Along with racing legend Bubba Wallace’s charity Live to Be Different and Asheville’s MANNA FoodBank, 23XL will be providing 1,500 frozen turkeys, goodie bags for children, a holiday food box with all sorts of holiday food elements and a dozen eggs, MANNA’s Micah Chrisman said.

MANNA is also giving out one pumpkin pie per family.

“This drive-through event at the WNC Farmers Market will provide a full Thanksgiving meal for families to enjoy together, bringing the holiday spirit to tables across our region,” the event website said.

“We’re planning to distribute all that food tomorrow,” Chrisman said. “If you’re in line, you’re going to get something to eat.”

Second Harvest of Metrolina connected 23XL with MANNA FoodBank, Chrisman explained. 23XL hopes to help with Hurricane Helene relief by offering families in need of a proper Thanksgiving supper.

“We’ve been helping with marketing,” said Chrisman, MANNA’s director of Marketing and Communications. “Michael Jordan’s racing team kind of wanted to volunteer the event.”

Chrisman wanted locals to know if the WNC Farmers Market is too far away, “People can visit our website,” he explained. “We have like a food finder map on there.”

For WNC residents, Chrisman said, “We have secured really thousands of turkeys to distribute to our local partner locations.”
