ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Western North Carolina is in for a cooler weekend after several days of unusually warm weather. And there’s an extra hour of sleep coming, too.
Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, when clocks fall back one hour to 1 a.m.
Before the cooler weather arrives, Friday’s high in Asheville is expected to reach 78 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg.
A cold front moving in from the north will bring cooler, drier air into the mountains Saturday. Asheville’s high is expected to reach 66 degrees, with increasing clouds throughout the day.
Sunday will be cooler still, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 62 degrees.
Rain shouldn’t be much of a concern for Halloween weekend plans. Forecasters expect dry conditions through at least Saturday, with only a slight chance of showers late Sunday night. The chance of rain in Asheville is 20%.
The cooler temperatures won’t last long.
Temperatures are expected to climb back above normal early next week, running about 4 to 8 degrees warmer than average by Tuesday.
The next better chance for rain could arrive around the middle of next week, although forecasters say the timing and details remain uncertain.
As for the time change, most phones and other electronic devices will adjust automatically. Clocks that don’t will need to be turned back an hour before bedtime Saturday.
And while the weekend brings an extra hour of sleep, it also means sunset will come about an hour earlier by the clock Sunday evening.
