ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Bundle up before you head out. Or just stay inside because it’s going to be really cold.

According to the National Weather Service, locations in the mountains hit their high before 3 p.m. Thursday and are on the downswing. Expect continued cooling and clear skies going into tonight. The mountains may see temperatures in the low teens … and perhaps even some single digits at the highest peaks. Winds are expected to die down but will be breezy enough to create some frigid wind chills.

The forecast through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Clear with a low around 14. North-northwest wind 9 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 28 mph.
Friday: Sunny with a high near 37. North-northwest wind around 9 mph.
Friday night: Clear with a low around 18. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph.
Saturday: Sunny with a high near 50. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph.
Saturday night: Mostly clear with a low around 27. Light west-northwest wind.
Sunday: Mostly sunny with a high near 59.
Sunday night: Showers likely, mainly after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy with a low around 41. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
