ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Snow started falling in the West Asheville/Enka/Candler area shortly after 11 a.m. Friday. Half an hour later, the ground in the Starnes Cove area was covered.

Snow started falling in the Alexander area about 11:30 a.m., but the ground there isn’t covered yet.

Snow has started falling at Montreat.

Snow began falling in the Montreat area about 12:15 p.m.

Forecasts are calling for the snow to continue falling for about 12 hours.

At 3:30 p.m., roads around Asheville were mostly wet but clear. But that is likely to change as more snow falls and the sun does down.

By 5 p.m., the snow falling in parts of the Enka/Candler area turned to freezing rain.
