LEICESTER, N.C. (828newsNOWS) — Crews were responding to a wildfire in the Leicester area Tuesday afternoon.
A social media post from Buncombe County officials at about 4:30 p.m. said the 8-acre fire off Peepeye Cove Road was about 20 percent contained.
Two structures required protection; however, no additional structures are at risk at this time, the Facebook post said. Firefighters are using hand crews and heavy equipment to provide containment along with water drops from helicopters and air tankers.
There are no evacuation orders or additional safety concerns for residents at this time.
The Buncombe County Fire Marshal’s Office, Buncombe County Emergency Management, N.C. Forest Service and other agencies are working with the Leicester Fire Department to contain the blaze.
Please avoid the area to allow emergency crews to safely work.
