ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Buncombe County and most of Western North Carolina are under a severe thunderstorm watch issued Wednesday morning by the National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS Storm Prediction Center put the watch in effect from 10:05 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, through 4 p.m.

It covers: Alexander, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Iredell, Jackson, Mecklenburg, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania and Yancey counties.
