ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) – “Will you be prepared for when a tornado warning is issued?” asks the National Weather Service. “Do you know where you will seek shelter?”
Officials from the state have announced a tornado drill at schools across North Carolina for 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025. Initially, the drill was planned for Wednesday, March 5, 2025, but was postponed due to weather concerns. Schools in South Carolina are also participating too, with their drill set for 9 a.m. on March 7, 2025.
But the drill is not only for schoolchildren. The U.S. National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg S.C. requests businesses, workplaces and families use the day to refresh on their plans in the event of a tornado.
Remember, you do not want to find out what to do in the event of a tornado during an active tornado.
The annual drill is part of the National Weather Service’s initiatives to prepare the general public for disasters. Other such drills occur throughout the year including Hurricane Preparedness Week, scheduled for May 4-10, 2025, and Winter Weather Preparedness Week, scheduled for Dec. 7-13, 2025.
