ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Last weekend, Asheville hosted legendary Italian composer Fabio Frizzi for a live performance of his score to the 1979 film “Zombie Flesh Eaters.”
The show was held at Eulogy, the live performance venue of Burial Brewing Co., an Asheville brewery with locations across town.
The unusual event was the latest in Eulogy’s long line of interesting, inclusive and alternative programming.
“I like to think that certain venues kind of have their lanes, you know what I mean?” said Eulogy talent buyer Ray Worth. “We wanted to fulfill that alternative culture that is Asheville and everything that fits under that umbrella.”

To Worth and his team, reviving an alternative scene in Asheville meant crafting event calendars that were as diverse as possible.
“We’ll go from a drag night one night to a metal show the next, to an indie rock, to an open mic bluegrass jam,” Worth said. “All across the board.”
The Frizzi performance was held at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at the 10 Buxton Ave. venue. The event was a collaboration with Orbit DVD, a local shop offering movie memorabilia, video games and more with a special appreciation for the horror genre.
Despite the gross-out factor of a movie like “Zombie Flesh Eaters” – also known as “Zombi 2” or simply “Zombie” – Eulogy was a packed house on Friday night. Black-clad fans filed into their seats to watch the film while Frizzi and his band played their psychedelic, synth-heavy score behind a projector screen. People hooted and hollered during the gnarliest zombie action and cheered for Frizzi at musical climaxes. Many even wore “Zombi 2” T-shirts to the event.
Clearly, there was an eager audience for live music underneath a film where a zombie fights a shark.
Eulogy wants to be a space to serve that audience, as well as anyone else who feels on the fringe.
“To bring all the different sects of Asheville together. To be, like, this is a cool room. This feels good here. I feel welcome here. That is the utmost importance to us. Absolutely,” Worth said. “Whatever background you have, just come have a good time, drink a beer with us, that’s what we want.”
Eulogy opened in November 2023, but at just under a year and a half old, their monthly calendar is packed.
According to Worth, the success of the venue is largely due to the inclusivity and variety Eulogy aspires to.
“I think it’s a lot of crossover,” Worth said. “I think there’s a convergence of all those different departments within the scene here that come together to make it work.”
