HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Henderson County officials will hold a public event on Monday, June 2, to share a major update on the Ecusta Trail, a long-anticipated greenway project more than 15 years in the making.

The announcement will take place at 10 a.m. at the Hendersonville Visitors Center stage, 201 S. Main St. County leaders said the event will include an unveiling and milestone update that community members “won’t want to miss.”

The Ecusta Trail, currently under construction, is expected to open in June 2025. Once complete, the trail will connect communities, promote outdoor recreation and enhance regional quality of life, officials said.

Phase 1 of the project is on schedule, and all essential safety features are expected to be in place at opening. Although some amenities, such as waste bins, may not be ready for the ribbon-cutting, six local businesses have signed on as Trail Partners, agreeing to provide trail users with access to parking, restrooms and water.

Federal grant reviews are still underway, but no construction delays are expected, according to a recent update from the Rail Trail Advisory Committee (RTAC).

While permitted events will not begin until 2026, a spring celebration hosted by the Friends of Ecusta Trail is already in the works. The county reminds users that e-scooter regulations will follow existing city and county rules and bike races will not be permitted for safety reasons.
