CANDLER, N.C. (828newsNOW) — As a heat wave continues to linger over the Southeast, one area of WNC has faced something frozen.

Pea-sized hail fell over the Enka-Candler area this evening around 6:30 p.m. in a lightning storm with winds hitting 60 miles per hour.

The storm caused widespread power outages. In a text message to customers in the impacted zone, Duke Energy reported that power would be restored by 11:45 p.m. this evening.
