ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Buncombe County officials are calling on residents, workers and community members in Swannanoa to help shape the area’s future through a new Small Area Plan.

The plan, developed in partnership with local organizations, will include recommendations for housing, transportation, health and recreation. It will also address long-term recovery and resilience strategies following Tropical Storm Helene, as well as future disaster mitigation goals.

To gather community input, Buncombe County is hosting a series of free public events:

  • Free Community Meal and Discussion: Monday, July 21, 5-6:30 p.m., Valley Hope Church, 115 Rockdale Ave. Bilingual discussions in English and Spanish will be offered.
  • Pizza with a Planner: Monday, July 22, 5-7 p.m., Good Company Pizza, 2334 U.S. 70. Drop in for free pizza and informal conversations with county planners.
  • Community Input Session at Terra Nova Brewing: Monday, July 28, 6:30-8:30 p.m., 204 Whitson Ave. A casual opportunity to discuss the plan over drinks.
  • Coffee with a Planner: Wednesday, July 30, 2-4 p.m., Short Sleeves Coffee, 222 Whitson Ave. Free coffee and one-on-one time with planning staff.

Community members may also provide feedback online through the county’s official channels.
