ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Members of the Buncombe County Board of Elections were sworn in Tuesday to begin a new two-year term overseeing the administration of local elections.
The five-member board includes Glenda Weinert, Courtney Blossman, Mary Ann Braine, Sally Stein and Jake Quinn. Two members are Democrats and two are Republicans, as required by law. The fifth member, the chair, is appointed by the state auditor. Dr. Glenda Weinert was named chair by State Auditor Jessica Holmes Boliek on June 24.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, board members elected Braine to serve as secretary.
County boards of elections are tasked with conducting elections, operating voting sites, maintaining voter registration records, and ensuring elections are carried out lawfully and fairly in coordination with the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
The new board will hold its first official meeting at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at 59 Woodfin Place in Asheville.
