ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Tourists were shut out for the third time in a week Tuesday night, falling 4-0 to the division-leading Hub City Spartanburgers at Fifth Third Park.

The game remained a pitcher’s duel until the third inning, when Spartanburg (49-47) scored the game’s first run on an error by Asheville (41-54), making it unearned.

Tourists starter Alain Pena (3-6), returning from the injured list, pitched three innings, allowing three hits while striking out two and walking one.

The game slipped away in the eighth inning when Asheville relievers Derek True and Cody Tucker combined to issue five walks, including four in a row, allowing three runs to score and putting the game out of reach.

The two teams meet again at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday for the second game of the series.
