BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — An expanded dance program for learners of all ages and abilities will fill the studio this September at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts.
Inclusive dance classes
The BMCA program, MoveAbility, offers donation-based inclusive dance classes for everyone age 5 and up, including classes with a senior focus.
MoveAbility is designed for inclusivity, incorporating neurodivergent and mobility-restricted participants in a “trauma-informed, joyful environment,” according to a BMCA press release.
MoveAbility features three different classes:
- MoveAbility 1 – 5:30-6:15 p.m., Mondays, ages 5-15, pay what you can
- MoveAbility 2 – 6:15-7 p.m., Mondays, ages 15 and up, pay what you can
- Tap & Jazz for Healthy Aging – 10-11 a.m., Tuesdays, $20 a class
The weekly sessions will begin Monday, Sept. 8 and continue through mid-May 2026.
Open house opportunities
On Sunday, Aug. 10, an open house will be held at BMCA, featuring free studio tours, an instructor meet-and-greet, Q-and-A opportunities to discuss accessibility, financial aid and class registration.
“We designed MoveAbility to be a space where everyone, no matter their ability or experience, can feel empowered through movement,” said MoveAbility Director Claire Landis in the press release. “It’s about joy, belonging and exploring creative potential together.”
