HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Overnight lane closures will begin next week on one of Hendersonville’s busiest roads as the N.C. Department of Transportation begins resurfacing work on Church Street (U.S. 25 Business).
Starting Oct. 29, contractors with Site Development Corporation of Rutherford County will work overnight, weather permitting, to repave the stretch between Bearcat Boulevard and the southern intersection with Main Street, transportation officials said.
Crews will be allowed to close one lane or one block of Church Street from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., except on holidays or during high-traffic evenings, such as nights with high school football games.
About 14,000 vehicles travel the corridor each day, and signed detours will direct traffic along Main and King streets while work is underway.
The $1.4 million project includes milling the old asphalt, repairing road depressions, laying new pavement, upgrading traffic signals and repainting lane markings. Last year, curb ramps along the route were brought into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Work is expected to be finished by the end of November.
Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, stay alert, and follow posted detours and traffic signs when traveling through work zones.
