ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville Regional Airport is adjusting ground transportation operations and urging travelers to check flight statuses as an ice storm warning takes effect across western North Carolina.
Airport officials announced that ride-share and taxi pickups will be temporarily relocated to the front curb outside the ticket lobby beginning at noon Saturday, Jan. 24, through Monday, Jan. 26, because of winter weather conditions. Travelers are advised to monitor the airport’s website and social media channels for updates.
The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning for the Asheville area, effective from 1 p.m. Saturday through 1 p.m. Monday. Airport crews are monitoring conditions and making operational decisions with traveler safety as the top priority, officials said.
Passengers are encouraged to arrive at least two hours before boarding time and to regularly check with their airlines for the latest flight information.
As of 6 p.m. Friday, the airport’s departures board showed multiple flight cancellations and schedule changes. Many arriving flights had also been canceled amid deteriorating weather conditions.
Airport officials thanked travelers for their patience as the storm moves through the region.
