MARION, N.C. (828newsNOW) —

An Asheville man has been charged with stealing a motorcycle from along Interstate 40 in McDowell County.

According to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, a man was traveling on I-40 on June 13 when his motorcycle came unstrapped and fell from his truck near mile marker 81.

The man told deputies he went to rent a trailer and when he returned a man was loading the motorcycle onto a trailer, a news release from the sheriff’s office said. A confrontation ensued, and the suspect assaulted the motorcycle owner and fled with the bike.

Deputies and North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers arrested William Charles Huskey a short distance from the scene, the news release said.

Huskey, 45, was charged with common law robbery and simple assault. Huskey received a $25,000 secured bond.
