ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) –– Walter Ear, previously the interim Capital Management Director for the city of Asheville, has officially been named to the position as of March 30, 2026.
Ear succeeds the directorship from Jade Dundas, who was promoted to Assistant City Manager in March 2025.
The Asheville native has worked for the city since 2014, bringing an engineering background and 10 years as a U.S. Navy officer to his work in the Capital Management Department. Before taking the interim director position, Ear had served as Public Facilities Division Manager since 2023.
“I’ve been honored to work alongside people who care so much about this community, and am proud of the work we’ve done over the past decade. I look forward to continuing to serve on this team, and to do our part to improve the built environment and make Asheville a safer, stronger and more connected place for everyone who visits or calls it home,” stated Ear in a city press release.
City Manager DK Wesley had nothing but kind words to say about Ear following his confirmation.
“Soon upon arrival, I was impressed by Walter’s ability to articulate a strategic vision for this department. He quickly demonstrated the kind of thoughtful leadership that makes a lasting impact on our community. In his time with the City, he has brought together strong technical expertise and strategic vision — helping us deliver projects that do more than improve infrastructure, but truly connect neighborhoods and expand opportunity. I look forward to supporting him as he leads our Capital Management Department and helps make a positive impact on how we plan and manage city assets,” Wesley said in the same release.
